The Pride Journal

Photoset by Emily Bourne.

Hey, Risen readers, I made a pride journal by hand and wanted to show you all! The making of this journal was so much fun and it helped me learn more about the LGBTQI+ community.

[image description: the front of the book; a black book covered in glitter tape, in different colours and in the top right hand corner is written 'pride']

[image description: 2 page spread; on the left hand side, there is an image of Audre Lorde and a description of who she was; on the right hand side, there is writing that is cut-off by the positioning of the camera]

[Image description: two page spread; on the left hand side is an image of Sylvia Rivera and a visual explanation of sex & gender; writing and symbols like hearts and stars are all over the page; on the right hand side is the quote ‘I think being gay is a blessing and and it’s something I am thankful every day’ by Anderson Cooper; there is a circular rainbow sticker in the middle of the page and the iconic image of somebody holding a sign saying ‘that’s Mr Faggot to you’ in the corner of the page; a paper clip and small envelope is on the page also.]

[image description: a photograph of Frida Kahlo and her lover is shown stuck on the back of a gold piece of card; this is usually clipped to the last page of this book, which is coloured in pink and purple.]

[image description: on the left hand side is the title ‘icons’ and two images of Bayard Rustin and Alan Turing; the page is painted orange and is decorated with decorative buttons; on the right hand side is an orange art print saying ‘baby you’re a limited edition’; in between the page is ribbon binding the book together]
[Image description: a card with the handwritten phrases ‘respect pronouns’, ‘love is love’ and ‘protect the queer family’, and next to it is a rainbow]
