Valentine's Day can be a tough time for those who are not in a relationship or cannot spend the day with their significant other. Instead of feeling down, I tried to remember all the things that make the holiday a little more enjoyable for me. I included little drawings, as creating is one of the things that also helps me feel better.
1. Self love is the best kind of love
It is perfectly okay to be in love with yourself! Take this time to recognize your inner and outer beauty. Your value does not depend on your relationship status.
2. It is okay to treat yourself
You deserve the best everyday and it shouldn't depend on anybody else. If chocolate makes you happy, go ahead eat some chocolate.
3. Animals Exist
No one puts up with you better than your pets. Animals are loyal and love us even during our worst times. Spend some time with your furry friend.
4. You are not alone
Even if it feels like you're the loneliest person in the world this Valentine's Day, you're not! Take this time to appreciate loved ones, such as your friends and family. Exchange gifts with your fellow singles or better yet, host a Galentine's Day party (Parks and Rec, anyone?)
5. Don't let let pressure of the day stop you from doing what you love
Don't force yourself to make plans on Valentine's Day. If you'd rather stay in, reading a book and sipping a warm cup of tea, it's perfectly okay to decline plans. There is no shame in taking some time for yourself.
Despite their relationship status, everyone deserves to be happy. Let Valentine's Day not just be a time to celebrate loved ones, but also a time to celebrate your beautiful self.
