Editor's Letter: April 2016

Dear Risen Readers,

We regret to inform you that we have all collectively decided to stop publishing on Risen for a while. We all feel like we need a break especially with school getting steadily tougher with college applications, SAT/ACT test taking, piles of homework and projects, and extracurriculars. We hope you understand this and still support us if we do decide to continue Risen. We’ve all loved the support from you and we have all learned so much not just from each other but from all of you as well. You guys are the most loyal and caring group of readers we’ve all come across and we thank you for all the times you’ve continuously cheered us on. With everything going on, we would just like to say one last thing: HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!

Now that I’ve got your attention, I’d just like to say that I’m happy the leprechauns and Easter bunnies didn’t get to you and that we’ve all survived into April to be able to stop and sneeze at the flowers (yay for spring allergies). We’ve revealed our biggest surprise to you guys the month of march, yes the shop is opening this month don’t fret! We’re starting with small products and eventually getting to the big, juicy stuff once we’re more financially stable. We’re super excited and a bit nervous for your reactions to our products, we really hope you enjoy them! We’ll be rotating our products so you’re not stuck with the same ones.

This month of April not only holds the springing of plants from the ground but also new projects in store that you’ll just have to wait to see! We’re definitely going to talk about important issues like the LGBTQ+ community and the struggles they face and keeping up with current events. We’ve released information on our new series called FIGHT NIGHT which is a debate between the Risen family and the Risen readers which we’re all cracking our knuckles in excitement about. This month’s fight night revolves around the topic of capitalism where the Risen team will be arguing for it and our readers will be arguing against it. If you want to participate, here are the guidelines.
·         Email your entry to risenzine@gmail.com
·         Entry must be a paragraph long but no longer than 2-3 paragraphs
·         You MUST have statistics/facts to back you up and a list of citations/resources
·         Due date to submit: April 7
·         If there are grammatical errors or we just want to make your piece flow smoother we will tweak it but not to the point the meaning of your piece is changed

The winner will be decided by outside readers who did not participate in the debate via Twitter polls and Instagram comments! We’re ecstatic to be interacting with you guys on such an intimate level where we have the chance to beat all of you in this competition. May the best fighters win!
We are still (and forever always) open to reader submissions! Read up on our submission guidelines here! If you do not follow these guidelines, your piece will not be posted. We do not accept submissions via DM only through email.  We want to hear your voice and amplify it to a larger stream of audience! We want to give you guys the opportunity to be heard.

Look out for more announcements and new series that will be released this month. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @risenmags to keep up with us! Don’t hesitate to comment, to be quite honest your comments make our day! If you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to comment on our posts or DM us on Twitter or Instagram. We’d love to hear what you say! Thank you again for your support and keep changing the world by building up knowledge day by day. Trek on young minds!

Love,
Jazmine Alcon & Spritually Claire Halloran (who is in Denmark right now)
