Editor's Letter: December 2015

Dear Risen Readers,

The November train has finally hit all of it's stops and it's time to change stations. We've focused on being thankful and now it's time to get cheery! Thank you for staying another month with us and during this chilly season, we want to keep you warm with more food for the brain and creativity coming not only from our Risen family but you readers as well!

We've received an astounding amount of reader submissions lately and we want to thank you all for choosing us as an outlet for your creativity. Priscila and I, as well as other select members of the family, look over each submission and see if it fits with our general output of articles during the month. If you're interested in submitting, we'd encourage you to read over our Submission Guidelines

After the recent tragedies within Paris, we want to show you the other side of the coin. We want to show you what the media isn't showing, the side that is often under the shadows of prejudice and hate. Protecting Muslims and what they stand for is a responsibility that we, not only Risen, but all of us have. So, we will show you the facts, open the door for you, but only you can make the decision to step in.

This month of December we'll get the ball (of snow! Alright, alright, I'll get off the stage) rolling with frost filled topics. We're going to discuss the merriness of Christmas and the misery of the other religious holidays that are often forgotten. We will speak about how other holidays (that aren't Christmas) are celebrated.

Although I am a big fan of all things cold & frosty, some of you might not be. Our team will discuss seasonal affective disorder and the aftermath of the snow frost on the tips of the slowly browning pasture. We want to discuss how you lovers of the warmth can still have fun in the cold and share with you, our secret list of our beloved winter movies, shows, and books! We'll give you help if you have any holiday (or non-holiday) related questions or troubles. We have the antidote that will cure that little chill right away!

I don't want to give it all away, although I've given you guys a lot to hang onto right now, I will tell you this...We, as a family, have decided that we will broaden our views and explore the sea of teenage dreams, motions, and thoughts. We're not moving away from social justice, but instead adding onto it. We're going to focus more on who we are, age-wise, and how society views all of us. We're getting in touch with what we've had all along and we really hope you're as excited as we are! Don't fret, we will never stop educating on things that matter.

IMPORTANT PS.

On behalf of the Risen family, I'd like to thank all of you for the support and love that we've all been receiving not only lately but ever since we started this movement. We've grown so much in such a short amount of time, and to be quite honest, we would not be here if it wasn't for all of you and all that you do and give to us. You inspire us to do our best to educate and create such beautiful things. So, this is a thanks to you, and a promise that we will put our all into whatever we put out. We hope you stay with us for however long this journey will be and continue with us through the bumps and potholes on this road. Don't hesitate to comment on our site, we look forward to read anything you tell us, may it be just pure love or criticism. We appreciate it all and most of all, we appreciate every single one of you.

Much love,
Jazmine Alcon
Co-Editor in Chief
